Who we are
Our Mission
What we’re about
Our mission is unchanged from that Christ gave his disciples two millennia ago. “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Our Vision
What we want to See
The vision of First Baptist Church Colcord is to create a dynamic, spiritual body of Christ-like believers that minister unselfishly in our community and world. Our daily living emphasizing total commitment of life, personality, and possessions to the Lordship of Christ
Our Beliefs
How we define our faith
The church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of, “The Baptist Faith and Message,” as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000.
Scripture
We believe that scripture is without any mixture of error, for its purpose, the Holy Bible was divinely inspired by God, written by men, and is God’s revelation of Himself to mankind. We believe that it is preserved by God and that it is a divinely authoritative standard for every age and every life.
Psalm 19:7-10, Matthew 5:17-18, John 17:17, Romans 15:4, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:20-21
Godhead
We believe that the Godhead exists eternally in three persons. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, Mark 1:9-11, 1 John 5:7
God the Father
We believe in God the Father, eternal God, who with Christ is the Creator of all things. This creation process was by Divine decree, not through some evolutionary processes. He reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise. We believe God is Father in truth to those who become children of God adopted into His family through faith in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all people.
Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 32:6, Jeremiah 10:10, Romans 8:14-15, 1 Corinthians 8:6, 1 Timothy 1:17
God the Son
We believe that Christ is the eternal Son of God. That in taking on flesh He was both fully God and fully man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary and lived a sinless life on this earth. While on this earth He taught and brought about many signs and miracles exactly as the Gospels report. We believe that through His substitutionary death on the cross He paid the price for the sins mankind. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples on the third day. After 40 days, He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the head of the church and our Mediator. He has brought about reconciliation between God and man.
We believe that one day He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to complete His redemptive mission, but for now He dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord. We believe that all who receive Christ become joint heirs with Christ and at death their spirits depart to be with Christ. One day He will return again and believers, both the living and dead will be bodily caught up to be with Him and dwell with Him forever

God the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the trinity, the Spirit of God, and fully divine. He has existed eternally with the Father and the Son. He participated in creation and inspired the holy men of old to write the Scriptures. Through illumination He enables men to understand truth and He exalts Christ. He convicts mankind of their sin so that they might repent and avoid judgment. He calls humanity into belief, and effects regeneration. At the time of that regeneration He baptizes believers into the Body of Christ. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows upon them spiritual gifts through which they may serve God. His presence in a Christian serves as a guarantor that God will bring the believer into the fullness of Christ. He instructs and empowers each believer and the church as a whole in worship, evangelism, and service.
Genesis 1:2, Psalm 139:7-24, Matthew 3:16, Luke 12:12, John 16:7-14, Romans 8:14-16, 1 Corinthians 2:10-14, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, Ephesians 1:13-14, 2 Peter 1:21
Mankind
We believe that mankind is the special creation of God, lovingly created in His image, He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. The gift of gender is thus part of the goodness of God’s creation. We believe that in the beginning mankind was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By their own free choice mankind sinned against God and brought sin to the whole human race. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God, and fell from their original innocence. Therefore their decedents inherited a nature inclined toward sin. For this reason, as soon as we are capable of moral action, we become transgressors and are under condemnation. We believe that only God’s grace can bring us back into fellowship with Him and enable us to fulfill the creative purpose of God. The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created us in His own image, and in that Christ died for us; therefore, we believe that every person of every race possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
Genesis 1:23-30, Psalm 8:3-6, Isaiah 6:5, Acts 17:26-31, Romans 5:19, Colossians 1:21-22
Sin
We believe that God did not create sin but rather in the beginning when God first created the earth it was perfect and free of sin. When Adam and Eve chose to disobey God they brought sin into the world. We believe that sin is a failure to keep God’s law in thought word or deed, and that since the fall of Adam and Eve all of mankind have lived with a “sin problem”. We believe that the price of our sin is death and that, that guilt can in no way be mitigated by good works. Our only hope is the redemptive work of Christ’s death and resurrection which fully satisfies God’s righteous demand for justice. When we turn from our sinful nature and become Christians. Because of Christ’s redemptive sacrifice, when God looks at us, He sees us through Christ’s sinlessness. While we believe that as Christians we still sin, we believe that as Christians, this is no longer a consistent, willful pattern in our lives. While sin breaks our fellowship with God, repentance renews that relationship once again.
Genesis 3, Romans 3:10-18, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 1:7, Ephesians 2:5, Hebrews 9:14, James 4:17, 1 John 1:8-10
Salvation
We believe that Christ came to reconcile us to God by willingly shedding His blood for us on the cross at Calvary and that this is the only acceptable atonement for our sin. We believe that salvation is a free gift of God for any who would call upon Him; it is by grace alone, through faith alone, nothing can or should be added. We believe that Salvation is received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work. We believe that believers are eternally secure in their salvation and that nothing can remove us from Gods hand. We believe that “Who ever will” may come to Christ; God does not pre–elect persons to hell.
